With spring just around the corner you may be starting to think about getting a spring cleaning checklist together. Unfortunately, with Michigan’s weather we can never be quite sure when spring will come exactly, but it is helpful to be prepared. Since we can’t count on the weather to cooperate with our spring cleaning schedule, why not start on the inside of your home? In this blog, we’ll go over some of the best indoor spring cleaning ideas. Get your buckets and brooms ready!
Indoor Spring Cleaning: Organize
Before you start dusting, vacuuming, and scrubbing, do yourself a favor and spend a weekend organizing and sorting. Starting off on an organized foot will make your indoor spring cleaning that much easier. Why waste time cleaning things you no longer use or need? For example, set aside some time to swap out your fall and winter wardrobe for your spring and summer clothes. This is also an excellent opportunity to donate clothes and shoes you no longer wear or need. Outside of the closet you can get a head-start on your indoor spring cleaning checklist by sorting through things like dishes, pillows, sheets, and your pantry. Make organizing your number one priority and the rest of your cleaning will fall into place!
Indoor Spring Cleaning: Dusting
Though not the most fun activity, dusting is a necessary part of any good indoor spring cleaning routine. Before you spend any time working on your floors or windows, invest in a good dust rag and/or dusting mop. It’s probably easiest to tackle your home one room at a time. If you have family members, enlist their help for an all-hands-on-deck dusting afternoon. Don’t forget to dust areas like window blinds, curtains, and behind large furniture items. Once you’re done dusting, you’ll be ready to tackle the rest of your indoor spring cleaning list.
Indoor Spring Cleaning: Floors & Upholstery
The next item on your spring-cleaning checklist should include cleaning your floors and upholstery. Now that you’ve cleared your home of dust, there are likely lots of dust bunnies on the floor. Pull your furniture out and give each room a thorough vacuuming job. Don’t forget to vacuum upholstery, too. Once you’ve put your furniture back, continue vacuuming the rest of each room. If you have carpet, you might invest in a rug cleaner to deep-clean the carpets. For your hardwood and tiled floors, opt for a material-safe cleaner to give them that sparkling finish.
Indoor Spring Cleaning: Safety Measures
It’s important that you regularly check a number of devices throughout your home and spring is the perfect time to get a handle on things. For one, you’ll want to test all of your smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly. Replace batteries when needed. The same is true for your carbon monoxide detector. You’ll also want to change out and burnt light bulbs. Spring is the perfect time to replace your home’s air filters and furnace filter as well. While you’re at it, don’t forget to clean out vents throughout your home to ensure you have the best air quality.
There are countless other areas in your home that could benefit from a thorough spring cleaning. By organizing, dusting, vacuuming/mopping, and updating things like air filters and devices with batteries, you are far ahead of the cleaning game.
